This is to announce the competition for the Annual Anne Peters鈥檚 Memorial Scholarship award.

Amount

Up to $500

Requirements

All undergraduate and graduate students whose major is Sociology, Labor Studies, Women鈥檚 Studies and the PACE program are eligible to apply. Students must be enrolled in spring.
Since the scholarship award will be granted in the spring semester, applicants must be continuing students in one of the previously designated areas of study. The award committee will take into consideration the applicant鈥檚 financial need, academic record and career goal in evaluation each applicant.

Description

The Loether Memorial Social Research Scholarship was established in his honor to support Sociology students engaged in scholarly research activities. Herman J. Loether died of cancer on March 25, 2011. Dr. Loether, emeritus and founding faculty member of the sociology department at 荔枝视频, was greatly respected by his colleagues and his many students. Dr. Herman Loether established the Social Systems Research Center (SSRC) in addition to teaching at 荔枝视频 for 30 years (after teaching for 10 years at CSULA). Dr. Loether founded the Alpha Kappa Delta (AKD) Chapter at 荔枝视频, and served as the advisor for many years. Dr. Herman J. Loether was actively involved in the development of the SSRC (now called the Urban Community Research Center), and took great pride in teaching 荔枝视频 students about doing hands on sociological research with community partners.

Requirements

Applicant must be a Sociology major, undergrad junior or senior, or graduate student, in good standing with the university. Applicant must be enrolled for the upcoming spring semester, and must be actively engaged in sociological research (e.g. involvement in the UCRC, Sociology 302 or 502, or other research activities with Sociology faculty at 荔枝视频). Applicant must have commitment to continuing education and attaining a graduate professional degree.
